Letter from Bishop Calvo

A Message from Bishop Calvo

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

We take up the Peter's Pence Collection this month is to provide the Holy Father with the financial means to respond with emergency assistance to those who are suffering as a result of war, poverty, oppression, natural disaster, and disease.  Over the years, the Peter's Pence collection has raised nearly $190 million to support our suffering brothers and sisters around the globe.

Pope Francis calls each of us to "respond with faith and charity" and to see in each person "a human being with a dignity identical to my own, a creature infinitely loved by the Father, an image of God, a brother or sister redeemed by Jesus Christ" (Apostolic Exhortation Gaudete et Excultate, no, 98).  When you support the collection, you affirm the dignity of our brothers and sisters around the world.

Please prayerfully consider supporting this collection as an act of mercy and charity.  Join our brothers and sisters in faith around the glove to help Pope Francis reach the most marginalized peoples.

   Sincerly yours in Christ,

Most Reverend Randolph R. Calvo,

Bishop of Reno

(this collection will be taken up next weekend, July 6 and 7th)
